The Home Training Program Series™ (HTPS™) was created by The Art of Coaching Volleyball and BYOP® Founder Ruth N. Nelson, who has amassed over 40 years of volleyball experience and expertise at all levels. Ruth is a former USA Team player, teacher and coach at the collegiate, national, and professional levels. For the past 17 years, Ruth has focused on and created the most innovative program for ages 10 and under that engages parents alongside their children in training (Bring Your Own Parent Program – BYOP®).

Ruth has created this unique Home Training Program Series™ for elementary students, youth players, parents, teachers and coaches that may be practiced not only at home with a parent, sibling or friend, but also before or after your regular team practice.

This program addresses two major areas: the first is the Physical Elements of Performance, which includes jump rope routines, hand-eye coordination using tennis balls, ace player card exercises, and the basic enhanced movement patterns used in volleyball. The second is the Fundamental Skills of Volleyball, which includes the Ace Player Card exercises, self and partner tossing for passing and setting, tossing for serving and footwork and arm swing for attacking.

This program is set up in 4 different sections:

    1 | Physical Elements of Performance – Level 1 (7 & Under)
    2 | Physical Elements of Performance – Level 2 (8 & Up)
    3 | Fundamental Skills of Volleyball – Level 1 (7 & Under)
    4 | Fundamental Skills of Volleyball – Level 2 (8 & Up)

Users are able to choose which level they wish to take and have the ability to move from video to video in whichever order they wish. If you begin at Level 1 and find it too easy, you can easily jump to Level 2 and vice-versa. After each video there is a short 3 question quiz, be sure to get all 3 questions right before moving onto the next video!

Items you will need to complete the Home Training Program Series™:

    – Jump rope
    – Tennis balls (3)
    Baden Softlight Youth Volleyball
    Elastic band
    – ACE Player Card – available to download & print under each video
    – Physical Elements of Performance Card(s) – available to download & print under each video
    – Fundamental Skills of Volleyball Card(s) – available to download & print under each video

  1. R Nelson Home Training Program Series™

    5

love taking the test after watching each of the videos and know that both Level 1 and Level 2 allows teacher, coaches, parents and players the opportunity to review on their own time. Great homework for those that need to follow a chart with the ability to see the daily and weekly improvement on each exercise. nice to be able to bring the chart to their teacher or coach to show how much improvement in Performance training and also fundamental skills

  2. Ruth Nelson's Home Training Program Series™

    5

This training program has it all. It is filled with basic volleyball skills that can be adapt for even the more advanced volleyball players. Ruth Nelson explains each exercise in detailed and she allows you to come back to the training sessions unlimited times. She doesn’t only provide you with videos of athletes and parents performing exercises and activities, but she also gives you access to forms and other charts that will be useful during the home training. I highly recommend that anyone who is planning to coach young athletes or has an athlete playing the sport to sign up and do this training program.

  3. Excellent Content!

    5

Great for at home training for youth!

  4. LAYS A GREAT FOUNDATION FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT

    5

The information found in Ruth Nelson’s Home Training Program Series lays the foundation for understanding basic volleyball skills and equips coaches with the tools necessary to teach kids of all ages. From cues and demonstrations to drill progressions and worksheets, this course does it all in providing coaches and players a pathway to improvement and having fun doing it! If you work with kids, you should definitely check out this course!

  5. Home Training Program

    5

This program by Ruth Nelson was so great not only as a refresher on the basic fundamentals of volleyball but the progressions that work best for training the youth. The drills are exciting and engaging for this age group, while also providing parents and players a better visual understanding than any clinic. One of my favorite things about this course is the progressions give players a chance to really gain the skills and techniques necessary to advance. The key words and phrases serve as an easy and constant reminder of the important techniques required of each skill. This program makes teaching volleyball to the youth fun, engaging and productive.

  6. Excellent exercises with little equipment

    5

A very clever training series for training in each stadium (level 1 and 2) and age – demonstrated with kids but not only designed for young people. A minimum of equipment. Exercises challenging especially coordination, motion and brain fitness. A basal approach – the idea and concept are so that level 2 is often an intensification or modification of level 1. Many drills (and quizzes) seem to be easier than they are. The important thing is not an overcomplexity of the single exercise but the possibility to improve the performance permanently.

  7. For young kids

    4

I was expecting a little more that would help my 5th grade and 6 grade level players.

I think it will work great for younger children once my program gets them in playing.

So overall a good course just for younger than I expected children.

  8. great beginner courses

    5

These courses are terrific for beginners because they’re so broken down which makes them easy to follow and progress at your own pace.

  9. We coaches of the little ones need more of this

    5

I am a coach for girls ages 8-10. All the drills as I did in BYOP 101 will be part of my program. Thank you Coach Ruth Nelson for creating this training plan.

  10. Awesome

    5

Love how Coach Nelson breaks it all down, and allows for students to get involved with quizzes at the end of each section. Love the visual model for kids, to watch then perform at home, and the print outs to help guide at home! We will be working on this during the summer! So Awesome!
